Eyesea: Mapping Pollution
Project is inactive
Eyesea is a global citizen science project that helps create one of the world's largest databases of marine and coastal pollution.
Participants use a free mobile app to photograph and report pollution such as plastic debris, oil spills, abandoned fishing gear and other visible marine hazards. The images are geotagged, creating a real-time picture of where pollution is occurring and helping identify pollution hotspots around the world.
The project is designed for anyone who spends time on or near the water, from sailors and fishers to surfers, divers and coastal communities. By contributing observations, participants help provide valuable data that can support clean-up efforts, inform decision-making and improve understanding of pollution sources and distribution.
The ultimate goal is not just to map pollution, but to help drive action that leads to healthier oceans.
WHAT
Map marine pollution using geotagged photos.
