Help researchers identify and track Fiji's manta rays by submitting your sightings and photographs. Whether you're diving, snorkelling or sailing, every encounter contributes valuable information that helps scientists better understand the distribution, movements, behaviour and population trends of these threatened animals.

Simply record the details of your sighting and upload your photographs through the online reporting form. Researchers use the unique pattern of spots on each manta ray's underside, much like a fingerprint, to identify individuals and build a long-term photo-identification database that reveals how manta rays use Fiji's waters over time.

Anyone visiting or living in Fiji can take part, including recreational divers, snorkellers, freedivers, sailors, liveaboard guests, tour operators, local communities and underwater photographers. No scientific experience is required, just a passion for the ocean and a willingness to share your observations.

Every sighting helps fill important knowledge gaps, supporting research that informs the conservation and management of Fiji's reef and oceanic manta rays for future generations.

Fiji is home to both the reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and the much rarer oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris), making it one of the few places where citizen scientists may encounter both species.
